Samsung’s diagnostic ultrasound imaging feature '5D Heart™' was introduced as a highly effective screening solution for fetal congenital heart disease at the 1st World Congress on Maternal Fetal Neonatal Medicine, held at the Queen Elizabeth II Congress Center in London, UK from April 24 to 26.
At the Pre-Congress Course on 24, Prof. Roberto Romero, Chief of the Perinatology Research Branch of National Institutes of Health in the US, lectured on his recent research cases of fetal-echocardiography using Fetal Intelligent Navigation Echocardiography (5D Heart™), which delivered the sensitivity of 98% and specificity of 93%, with 95% accuracy in screening for fetal congenital heart disease.

Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) is one of the most prevalent organ-specific birth defects, and is also the leading cause of infant mortality from congenital malformations.
Conventional two-dimensional (2D) or four-dimensional (4D) ultrasound has not only been relatively time-consuming, but also requiring considerable amount of anatomical knowledge in the fetal cardiology with highest level of expertise. As a result, these procedures are known to be rather difficult and less practical.
However, the 5D Heart™, simply marking seven anatomical structures, enables easy, fast and accurate solution for screening fetal congenital heart disease with nine standard fetal-echocardiography views in a single display.
Through this research result, Samsung plans to drive 5D Heart™ as an optimized screening solution in fetal-echocardiography for healthcare professionals and hospitals.
